Funny enough I own this game but I haven't played it. I still need to play the Star Ocean series at some point, it's on my list lol.

I have the PSP version, I got it for free from one of my old coworkers at my previous job. There’s only like 3 versions: PSX, PSP, and the HD Remake. The PSX and PSP are identical gameplay wise, the difference is updated character art, translation, and voice actors.
