Plot Unfolding Machine Companion

Post by Senkusha »

PUM (Plot Unfolding Machine) is yet another game master assistant, and it appears to be different from Mythic GM Emulator. But this post isn't going to be about PUM. It's going to be about the Companion application that's available.

I'm in love! If you're familiar with The Foundry VTT, you can play darn near any role playing game virtually. PUMC is like a stripped down version of Foundry. It's specifically designed for Solo Role Playing and features all kinds of goodies to achieve that. Probably it's most powerful feature is the ability to create custom tables, and with some expansions that are available, you can add Widgets, Decks of Cards, and other cool features. The app features a powerful journaling system. You can roll dice, roll on [information] tables, pull cards from decks, and switch Characters.

The app also features access to all your role playing books, and you can import character PDFs as well. There are some basic editing capabilities for PDFs as well, and Widgets can improve your experience. There are extensive areas for lots of different types of notes, and the app keeps everything organized. Best of all, this app only costs $15, compared to The Foundry, which costs $50. The developer is very active on his discord server and is very attentive to questions and feature requests.

If you've explored Solo Play using the traditional methods of pads of paper and a pencil, you may want to give the PUMC a try. You can even load maps with character tokens if you need to! This software is only getting better every day! I found my copy on DriveThruRPG, but there's also his Itch page, that has more information on it.

P.S. This app is available for Windows, Android, Linux, and iPhone!

I can't wait until I can afford to get the Android version (too). But I'm totally broke... The desktop version is really comprehensive!

No. Like $15. I do now have both the Desktop and the Android version. (As well as ALL the extras!) Works seamlessly via Google Cloud so I can play on my desktop and Android without any fuss.

So, I have the Decks and Cards extension. This is awesome because it supports unlimited decks. Including Tarot Cards, so now if I want, I can do a Tarot reading while on the Subway-- it's not quite the same as I can't feel the energy of the card in my hand, but it's nice in a pinch. I believe you can draw up to nine (9) cards at one time, although the most I've ever drawn was five.

3D-dice are a nice touch. That's all I've got for that.

Crystal Theme is great for expanded customization. I haven't really explored much into it yet though. Although, the customization isn't 100% free form -- like I can't specify to use my LCD or Bubblegum fonts.

Builder Widgets. I have yet to truly play with these, but I can add these to a PDF character sheet to use as Point Trackers, Clocks, and other useful tidbits. I'm really excited to try it out as I'm working on building my own RPG system at the moment.

That's really cool that it also has tarot cards! :O Also good that everything saves in Google Cloud, also $15 isn't a bad price!

Clarification: It doesn't include any tarot cards, it allows you to import tarot (or any other) cards to then use.
