Mythic: The Game Master Emulator

Post by Senkusha »

I just purchased the Mythic GM Emulator (second edition off the DTRPG for like $10. So far, flipping through it, it looks pretty solid. I'm eager to try it out with my Teenagers From Outer Space game I just bought. That and NewEdo. I'll probably start out with Teenagers first though. It's a simpler game I think.

Have you used any sort of Game Master replacements/aids? Things like Oracle Decks or Randomized Charts?

Sounds fun, but I never really owned any of these. I might look into it.

Mythic GM Emulator is worth the money as a standalone GM-free game. I have a friend who used on lightweight games and it's really impressive.

Turns out, I may actually be using Mythic with GURPS first! LOL

This is good to know, and I'm excited to try it out.

FYI: There's also an APP (multiple platforms), and it's just been upgraded significantly! You can find it here. Also, I highly recommend grabbing either the hard copy book or the PDF.

The book is pretty awesome. It's great for not only solo-play, but you can also use it as a GM assistant, or even a co-GM for round-robin games. Even for simply creative writing purposes. There's tons of random roll tables in there! Great buy for like 230 pages! I'm watching a bunch of YouTube reviews and tutorials now. And I'm definitely going to be purchasing the other software with my next paycheck.

Okay, so today I purchased the Windows software and I've upgraded my Android software as well. Playing around with the desktop software, is really a sweet treat! There is a substantial list of tables already included within the software (like 103) for all sorts of inspiration prompting. But, if that's not enough, I can always create customized tables! For example, add a list of Tarot Card meanings-- because I don't have to define every table at 100, I can set the table to any number of elements. Furthermore, I could define an arbitrary number of element slots and then assign weighted ranges for each slot (for example, one slot could be set at 17, while another one could be set to 18 through 23). Another example, I could literally make a BINGO chart, and populate each entry with a Jeopardy-like phrase/question. Finally, the software also includes an export feature, along with a specific feature to export to The Foundry VTT!

Another feature that's cool is the built-in Dice Roller. This Roller supports all the typical dice that you'd find in an RPG (d4 all the way up to d20), but it not only has special dice of d100, d66 (if you play games like MAID, you know!), d2 (coin flip), and even FATE dice. However, I feel the real power here is with the ability to save Dice Formulas. There's a number of options that you can add, just by clicking on one of the buttons-- such as Keeping the Highest, Exploding Dice, Re-rolling Ones, and more. I believe that you can also write complex formulas using a text editor using the JSON format. Like the Charts function, you can Import and Export Dice too.

But this software is so much more powerful than just a typical Oracle table. You can store notes about your plots, characters, and game events. I'm not sure how lengthy these entries are allowed to be just yet, but just in case, I'll continue to post on my forum-- which I was planing on doing anyway. And it appears that all the entries are automatically saved as you enter the data!

I'll look at the Android version within a couple days, but so far, I'm really liking this software!

I do think Mythic is brilliant for creative minds. I have seen writers use it when stuck to look for inspiration, while RPG used if for its versatility.
