Anyone here ever start your Ys journey with these first two games?

I played a little bit of the one of the Ys games on the Genesis once but didn't get too far. It's a series I really need to get around to playing someday!

The games are fine, but I'm not a fan of the bumper car mechanics.

I still have a copy for PSP I think? I need to pull it out one of these days and boot it up.
