The basic step of designing dungeons used in table top role playing games is to determine the purpose and theme. The difficulty and the fun are brought in by adding traps, puzzles, enemies and rewards. Though, it's quite difficult to maintain a balance between them but it puts the players to test.

Honestly I never really made dungeons for my tabletop game sessions. We just kind of imagined walking around a grassy field and encountering hordes in our journeys. So really we just make things up on the spot lol.

Got to be careful you don't make it too easy or anything gives the players an advantage.

I like that imagination part you mentioned. That’s actually the fun of it, making things up on the go. I’ve done something similar before, no strict map or dungeon, only the vibes and storytelling. Sometimes that freedom makes the game more enjoyable. Still, I won’t lie, I admire people who take time to design full dungeons.
