GURPS

I've had GURPS in my possession for at least a year, but I haven't really cracked it open to look at it. And oddly enough, it was the Advantages and Disadvantages section that peaked my interest. I'm looking for ideas for my own role playing game that I'm designing. So, I'm looking at the system. Roll Under 3d6 mechanic. Seems already pretty positive in my book. That's less work that I have to do as a Game Master.

One of the perks to using GURPS is that it's genre agnostic, and modular, meaning I can play any style of game with this system! I might try making my own Cyberpunk setting.

Have you played with this game system before?

I never heard of it, but looks rather interesting though.

I feel like it would sound weird trying to bring it up in discussion at my game group, maybe I'll just show up with it.

Well, you could always use the full name: Generic Universal Role Playing Game.

I just picked up like nine or 10 books (including the two CORE books) for $45. All of the following are FOURTH edition (the latest), and I was able to link my account to my DriveThruRPG account, so I knew (and now will verify) that this is completely legit, no bootlegging!) All these books would probably have cost over $200 if I purchased them outright. And I already had many of these books on my wish list, so now I just need to get the Space related books, probably next month. I found this in a Reddit group I frequent. https://bundleofholding.com/presents/July2025GURPS Payment uses Stripe too.

Anyway, GURPS is one of those Genre-Agnostic game systems, it let's you create just about any type of character (and world/setting) you can imagine. It's a bit on the crunchier side, and because of that, there's a number of software tools that have been created for it. In fact, just this morning, I picked up GCA (GURPS Character Assistant), and it apparently makes it really easy to put together a character. It's got all the rules from the Basic Core books, and I think you can add (or import) other rule books too-- assuming they've been created.)

Can you tell I got paid today? LOL

But I've looked at a number of Agnostic systems (including the HERO system). I think I'm liking GURPS better, simply because although it has A LOT of character options (Advantages), everything is defined thoroughly. And it even states in the book, that everything is optional. In fact, I'm going to test the GURPS system. I've expanded my original longing for a Cyberpunk game, and I'm throwing in a Space Opera (Star Trek/Star Wars) with Star Gate type tech, and I'm adding some anime shenanigans too. I want to play a really unhinged badass character, like my original Shadow Run character, Lindsey, but take her WAY over the top.

I'm also playing around with The Foundry and it's GURPS game aid (system module), and I've got the Mythic GME (Game Master Emulator), so that I can actually maybe play a character in this crazy world, instead of only administering the world and NPCs.
