This is probably the most well known tabletop RPG that's been around for decades. I'll admit, it's the only tabletop game I've played so far! Sadly it's been a few years since I've played, my wife and I had a falling out with the people we played with unfortunately. We did in person sessions but when covid hit we had to switch to online sessions and it was fun, I hope I can get a group together again sometime. Do you play this game? Have you ever played it? Do you have a campaign that's been going on for a long time?

I played D&D a couple of times. Most of the people I played with though, preferred Pathfinder though. I still own the 3.5 version of the rules. But High Fantasy isn't truly my cup of tea. I prefer grittier settings, Science Fiction, Cyberpunk, futuristic, even Space Opera. I prefer a lot of tech in my worlds.

You could always base campaigns around those settings.

That's the neat part about D&D, one of my old coworkers wanted to do a My Little Pony campaign. But I know D&D isn't for everyone of course!

My problem with D&D isn't just the setting, it's the power dynamics of how the mechanics are geared. Players are way too powerful and a GM constantly needs to up his/her opponents to match. It basically becomes a combat mash-fest. And in the eyes of somebody who loves the role part in role play, combat is some of the most tedious and boring aspects of the event.

Just got done playing tonight, in two different groups running a homebrew in one and a Tiamat in the other. It's a lot of fun.
