Money, levels, items, how do you go about grinding in RPGs?

It depends on which game I'm playing and if I'm doing a challenge. For example lately I've been doing two challenges in Pokemon Blue and Red. The first one is I'm only allowed to use poison type moves so I'm only allowed to currently use my kakuna in battle to attack since it's the only Pokemon on my team that knows any poison type moves. I switch in my Nidoran female to get experience because once she goes to level 14, she'll learn Poison Sting and can attack. In the other challenge I'm doing, which is only using water type moves in battle I just started with Horsea since it knows Bubble so I'll just keep using it for now. But if I'm just playing a RPG normally, I just keep battling monsters until I need to heal and then I heal. I'll save up money before I start buying items I need.

Thankfully most RPGs offer a way to cut down on grind, back in the day I would change the channel to tv and just keep pressing similar buttons to move and then attack for an hour to get money/level ups.

I would listen to music and I still do whenever I grind. I love game music but I would get tired hearing the same battle music over and over again lol.

When I grind, I multitask and that's where the enjoyment lies. It doesn't make the game boring. I listen to podcasts or music while grinding.

Man while playing Super Mario RPG on live stream, I wish I could listen to music and grind lol. There's been parts of the game that I needed to go back and grind a little bit and it's kind of hard to go up levels in the game. I do like that if you get knocked out you get to keep your experience points, it's something you rarely see in RPGs. I know the Pokemon games are like this.

I know the remake, if you just keep fighting you stay pretty leveled up but also do the start trick can gain lots of quick exp.

Grinding in games like the old Pokemon games is quite hard, the animations are really slow and in some games, wild pokemon are really on low levels considering what you need to beat (for example, the victory road on Pokemon Gen 1).
In other games like FF8, grinding on the SEED academy is easy, you can easily get to LVL 100 on the first episode.

Yeah even if you turn off animations in the Gen 1 games there's still a bit of lag since the game pauses for a second to check and see if the animations flag is set to yes or no lol. That's why usually I'll play the games either on a emulator to speed it up or just listen to music so I get lost in that while grinding in the Pokemon games.

I didn't mind the grind back during the day for PS1 and older rpgs, since I had lots of time to put towards grinding.
