Miss about old RPGs

What is one thing you miss about old RPGs that isn't in modern ones?

I like the difficulty and grinding, I know not everyone likes grinding in a RPG but man it was always satisfying when you would finally beat that boss you were stuck on after grinding for a bit.

I miss the more open world exploring and freedom of travel with ships and airships. RPGs these days seem so stuffy.

I miss that as well too. There's lots of open world games, but you usually just end up traveling via other means. I loved the SNES era of Final Fantasy games, even though they were limited to what could be done controlling the airship in Final Fantasy VI felt amazing!

Nothing more fun coming across a very small town/cave to explore while flying or sailing around.

I think the keyword here is “grinding for a bit”. The several hours grind can be tiresome. Especially if the regular dungeon enemies are a cakewalk before the boss.

I also don’t consider heavy grinding as “difficult”. Especially if all you have to do is get levels instead of creating a strategy.

I barely have time to play games, much less take time to grind, glad they include stuff to speed it up.

I don’t mind grinding unless it’s egregious like I said before, but ability to speed up battles is a godsend now.

Once RPG’s went 3D, the flashy battle spectacle can get annoying at times. Like, I get it for like their limit breaks, and saving those up for boss fights can feel epic. When it’s slow for their other moves and you’re in your 1000th fight, it can feel agonizing without the ffw feature.
