Lancer

Post by Senkusha »

As I wander around the Solo-Play experience, I stumbled across Lancer, a science-fiction, futuristic game where players operate Mecha (giant robots that their characters pilot). Game play appears to be fairly simple, utilizing a 1d20 and 2d6. You're also going to want some sort of paper, whether it's grid or hex paper for the tactical play. This game does feature a narrative component and downtime as well. I should also mention that although it may be played Solo, you can play with like up to six different people. There's two versions avaialbe, the free "primer" version, and the full version for $25. I also found a GM helper on DriveThruRPG for like $5!

I'll update this as I get a chance to review it more in depth.

Not to derail this topic, but there's also a very crunchy mecha game, an old one called Mekton (Mekton Zeta Plus) that was produced by the same game publisher as Teenagers From Outerspace (yeah, I own both of these too!), R. Talsorian Games, that you can supposedly build completely customized mecha. I'm reminded of playing RoboTech and (possibly BattleTech?) in high school, and had quite a bit of fun designing my own awesome mecha. This game probably came out around the same time though.

Back on topic though, Lancer is a modern reinvention of this genre, I believe, and it super fun! Bonus points for being able to solo-play it too!

Lancer sounds like a very good game. Though I haven't played it, but I have heard about it from a friend.

Mechs are cool so this game sounds freaking awesome lol. I've never played a solo table top game before, I wish I had more time to do so lol.

That's one of the beauties about Solo Play. You can work on it whenever you have a spare moment.
